Serbia applies to UN over Kosovo

Serbia has submitted its request to the General Committee of the General Assembly of the United Nations asking for it to seek an advisory opinion from the International Court of Justice on the legality of Kosovo’s unilateral proclamation of independence, which has been recognised by most EU states and by the USA. A decision by the General Committee is expected around the middle of September but even if the case goes to the ICJ, it could be several years before the court rules.
